Adelaide has the highest hotel occupancy rate in April among 14 major Australian and New Zealand cities, making it the top city nationally and across the Tasman.
Adelaide surpassed both Perth (76%) and Sydney (74%) in hotel occupancy rates, exceeding the national average of 78% and ranking as the second and third Australian cities, respectively, among the 14 major cities.
According to the latest report from hotel data analytics company STR, April 2024 was outstanding, with accommodation in Adelaide's greater metropolitan area achieving its highest monthly revenue ever. April 2024 is the second month to achieve an average nightly revenue over $2.0 million, surpassing the previous high of $2.1 million in March 2024.
Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison said “We knew Adelaide was the place to be in April and being ranked number one for hotel occupancy in cities across Australia and New Zealand proves it.
The back-to-back accommodation occupancy records in March and April demonstrate why the State Government continues to back blockbuster events such as LIV Golf Adelaide and AFL Gather Round.
The benefits of strong hotel occupancy are felt right across the tourism and hospitality industries, with the boost to visitation helping generate valuable dollars for our restaurants, bars, and cafes.
I have no doubt the thousands of visitors who enjoyed our vibrant city in April have gone on to be advocates for our state, helping to add South Australia to the bucket lists of many potential travellers.”

The return of the state's premier events, such as the AFL Gather Round and LIV Golf Adelaide, along with eight conferences that welcomed a total of nearly 3,100 delegates in April, is responsible for the positive results.
During the four days of AFL Gather Round, the greater metropolitan Adelaide achieved an average nightly revenue of $3.4 million. Saturday night of the football festival ranked highest ever with revenue of $3.9 million. Friday night ranked second with $3.7 million, while Thursday night came in fourth with $3.3 million.
LIV Golf Adelaide contributed to an average nightly revenue of $2.8 million and an average occupancy rate of 86%. Additionally, 42% of the tournament tickets were purchased by out-of-state and foreign fans, confirming its popularity among a wider audience.
